Nary

My inspiration

Hello everybody! So guess what, another new character to have fun with has emerged…and for the life of me I have no idea where my character sheet is at 5am so well just go with her nickname Nary(at least I think it was Nary). Anyways so she is a Pathfinder character, for those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a role-playing game where each campaign is laid out for the Dungeon Master line by line basically but what you do in game actually effects the Pathfinder world nationally.  Also each campaign or module takes about one session of 3-6 hours.

So my character is a Cleric of the Goddess Sarenrae and an elf.

The Goddess Sarenrae

Sarenrae is: Known to her faithful as the Dawnflower, the Healing Flame, and the Everlight, Sarenrae (pronounced SAER-en-ray[1]) teaches temperance and patience in all things. Compassion and peace are her greatest virtues, and if enemies of the faith can be redeemed, they should be. Yet there are those who have no interest in redemption, who glory in slaughter and death. From the remorseless evil of the undead and fiends to the cruelties born in the hearts of mortals, Sarenrae’s doctrines preach swift justice delivered by the scimitar’s edge. To this end, she expects her faithful to be skilled at swordplay, both as a form of martial art promoting centering of mind and body, and so that when they do enter battle, their foes do not suffer any longer than necessary.

I plan to play Nary very similar to Milly Thompson from the anime Trigun, she’s described on wiki as: She appears rather simple, but has a kind heart and also reveals a strength of character and genuine optimism.:

Milly

So with all that in mind we are going to the NY Ren faire mid-Sept and most, if not all of us, wanted to go as our new characters now that we have played them in two modules. The first image of this post at the top is actually called Persian princess and is not an actual canon depiction of  a cleric of Sarenrae but the image for that has a women with way too much clothes on for me so I went with the above instead…and I ended up altering quite a bit anyways. I kind of took it as a starting point instead. I already own Harem pants and a halter top that are a dark green with very pretty detailed trim and I have my cute brown boots I use for Denya. I also happen to own a nice wooden sword that looks kinda like it could come from the middle-east and will work for now as a scimitar. I also plan on wearing my little leather bracers. So, it’s  a start but I definitely needed something like the over garment in the above picture, as well as a hip scarf and perhaps a head wrap of some sort. So the journey began…
When looking into Belly dancing/middle eastern costume wear I found whats called a Ghawazee Coat, the first of which I found that I liked was this one:

A Ghawazee Coat

But ofcourse it was not quite the pattern or thickness that I wanted as this is made from thick tapestry fabric and has a lining, also it’s not cheap at $80. But the cut and look were exactly what I was looking for, so after some digging I found a women who could make a thin linen one. She is willing to custom make it for me, she went fabric shopping and found a nice brown color with a thin gold pinstripe and I’m going to have it done with copper grommets. She makes her’s much shorter and with sleeves but the sleeves are also laced all the way to the shoulder on top so I can undo that if I want and have the sleeves hanging nicely under my arms or have them laced up in colder weather. She’s also going to make it knee length like I want, all for only $40:-) Here’s the original listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/107883272/renaissance-faire-bellydance-corset?ref=sr_gallery_5&ga_search_query=Ghawazee+Coat&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=all

I’m going to try and make the waist scarf once I have the coat and I can look at colors, I have a hand sewing tool I can use since my sewing machine broke and I need to buy a new one. Same with the head scarf, we’ll see what happens with that. With all of that all that’s really needed is a few accessories, like the holy symbol of Sarenrae:

Clerics usually carry a holy symbol with them and use it to do any of there magical abilities. One of my dear friends who’s good at working with crafts is going to help me make one based on this image that I can then have hanging off of my belt. I may also see if I can find a sun pendant of some sort as she is the goddess of healing and fire and such.

Eventually, if I continue to like this character and play with her I want to get this top to go with the outfit instead of the green one I’ll be using for now:

I think it will look great with all of the fire like colors in it and go well with the grown and gold coat.

So hopefully it will all look great and not be crazy hot like it was last year at Sept. Ren faire. 🙂

ICON!

So ICON is happening this weekend on Long Island. And a bunch of my friends are going so I am super super excited:-)

I will be Kaylee on Saturday as I’ve said before. I was able to seam rip the arms off the jumpsuit last night and put two of the patches on which should be ready by tonight. I need to hem the arm holes tonight if possible, I would like to sew them but I might be lazy and liquid stitch them instead. I bought black boots yesterday at Walmart and are wearing them today to try and break them in before I’ll be in them all day Saturday. O, and I got a long sleeve shirt that is Kaylee-esque from Savers.

On Sunday I will be wearing an outfit as well, but I think due to the cold I’ve been going for easier and warmer outfits so I will be a simple elf girl. I have a cincer I bought last year that I have as of yet to really wear and own pants/skirts and ren shirts that I plan to mix and match. I also have elf ears and I will probably wear my pretty purple cloak, I’d wear my nice moleskin one but it’s crazy long and I have as of yet to bustle it. Aside from all of that i am ready to go, well be staying in a nice hotel with a pool so I’ve very excited:-) Also “Time of the Fairies”  will be there who I got to meet and talk with briefly back in January, so I’m excited to see their work again and possibly buy a small print:-)

Side Note: I saw these while looking for Elf maiden pictures and found them pretty and interesting since I believe those ears are permanent alterations:-)

Dollieh Vacation Day 4- Day at the Aquarium

Note: Aurora has a pet purple manta ray named Lily.

Despite there drinking the night before, Jewel and Aurora pulled themselves out of bed the next day, intent on going forward with their original plan to see the Aquarium together. They got their a little late, and the place was packed.

Aurora: Look at all the pretty colors. Hey Jewel, my shirt matches the sea coral!
Jewel: *giggles* You would bring this back to your clothes.

Jewel: Wow, those Sea Horses are beautiful! Look at their pretty fins.

Aurora: Sea Dragons! I want to ride one! And little Lily would love to play with one.
Jewel: Lily might get eaten by one…or at least one of these other fish..

Aurora: Lily might get eaten by one? Have you seen the big tank…we’d get eaten by one!
Jewel:….and on that note. Let’s go to Lunch!

Aurora: Bubba Gump!

…and the girls are back to drinking. That didn’t take long!

Dollieh Vacation Day 3-Cocktail Party

Kat decided to have a nice cocktail party at her house tonight. Everyone dressed glamorously and unexpectedly Kat’s young cousin Hayden showed up as well.

Hayden and Alice enjoying some rum and the dear Captain…I think they’ve had a few.

Sapphire seems to enjoy her brandy and has gotten quite comfortable, kicking off her shoes. And the two girls are

just having a grand old time…as you can see:-)

Sapphire: Kat, this party is wonderful. Your a great cocktail host.

Kat: Ohh..than..thank you…you know Sapphire…
Sapphire: Yah?
Kat: I love you!
Sapphire: Oh geez, Kat, how many have you had?
Kat: What?!? No…no,no. Rea…really I do…I do…
Sapphire: Uh huh…I think maybe we ought to call it a night.
Good night everybody!

Dollieh Vacation Day 2-Slumber Party

Now that they were in LA, ofcourse the girls had to go sight seeing. So they decided to head of to Universal Studios for the day. They were having so much fun after the gates closed at 6pm none of them wanted it to end, so they had a Sleepover :D

All the girls chit chatting and talking about what they plan to wear for Kat’s cocktail party the following evening.

And Everyone finally hunkering down for bed.

Dollieh Vacation! Day 1

It’s ever so cold in CT and so it’s that time again to make the bi-yearly trek to CA where it’s warm…and this year there’s new friends to meet and get to know. But first let’s pack:

Alice and Aurora picking out all of the outfits they want to bring along on the trip.

Once there Alice and Aurora got to meet the over rebellious Jewel and Sapphire found a friend in ever so pretty Kat. And ofcourse little Bailey(Sapphire’s puppy) found a new fascination in Kat’s ferret, Crosshairs. So they all decided to go out for tea.

Introducing Alice

My newest 1/6ish addition to the family I bought at Target on Monday night.  I’ve been buying Liv clothes for my 1/6 Volks Aurora for some time now. there clothes I feel are more stylish and they generally fit my doll better than most barbie clothes although I buy those at times as well. For a while now I’ve had my eye on the Target exclusive Alice in Wonderland Liv doll set they came out with. I love Alice in Wonderland anyways and have multiple barbie exclusive dolls over the years that I like to display in there boxes so I was considering getting the Alice doll to add to the collection. But than I looked closer at the Alice doll when I got to the section and discovered that the Alice doll and all of her friends were extremely pose-able, in some ways more than my little Volks. They have wrist, elbow, waist, ankle and knee joints, including knee caps so she can bend her foot all the way way back to almost her butt. And ofcourse Liv dolls have real looking glass eyes(which you unfortunately can’t replace but still cool) and there own line of wigs (costing only about $6/ea). I noticed most of the dolls are not quite like this but the Wonderland line all were(and I think the twist and dance or something one’s but I’m not sure). So I broke down and bought Alice (not much breaking at only $15) and decided to bring her into my dollieh family:-) I even bought her a new wig and a rain gear clothing set the next day:-)

Bonus image, playing with her little bunny:
